Start Of Chainsaw Art

2009_0828Rpix0001 (640x480).jpg

Start of chainsaw art in 1952 by Ray Murphy Chainsaw Sawyer Artist® was the discovery that art could be done with a chainsaw. Ray was sawing firewood when he decided to saw his name on a block of wood. Then Ray started sawing messages to his brother. As one thing lead to another, Ray started sawing 3 demensional figures on fence post and stumps. Sawing stump art started in 1953. Ray sawed many pieces of furniture and sawed decorative pieces for log cabins. The progression of Ray's chainsaw art lead to Ray sawing chainsaw art all over the world. Eventually Ray started sawing on other materials than just wood. He sawed on apples, pumpkins, paper, cardboard, nuts, seeds, leaves, and stone. The sawing on sand stone was very interesting and hard on a chainsaw. Ray sawed at many expos, trade shows, festivals, art shows, fairs, and private shows. The start of Ray's Unique chainsaw art stage show doing real chainsaw art happened in 1980. The start of many near-impossible feats started into a long progression of many unique performances. Ray now has th Worlds #1 Chainsaw Sawyer Artist® Live Show in Hancock,Maine. Ray has become famous for his unique touch with a chainsaw on tiny items. Ray saws on toothpicks, mustard seeds, matches, popsicle sticks, and pencils without using any carving tools. Start of chainsaw art was with a real chainsaw.
